AQHA Director Candidate- Jill Cook DV M

Dr. Jill Cook has been involved in many facets of the horse industry for over 30 years. She and her late husband Vaughn Cook started and operated Royal Vista Equine Inc. in Colorado as well as expanding to Royal Vista Ranches and Royal Vista Southwest in Oklahoma. Dr. Cook actively bred mares and performed embryo transfers professionally since 1990 until recent years when the Colorado facility was leased to their former employees to operate. She is still involved in the management decisions at Royal Vista Ranches in Oklahoma but resides full time in Colorado where she enjoys spending time riding her reining horses and raising a few race foals. Dr. Cook has been involved in many aspects of the Quarter horse industry and is a lifetime member of AQHA. The Cooks have been AQHA breeders for over 30 years and have primarily focused on raising quality race horses for sale at the major yearling sales in the country. They have also raced multiple horses and had success at the track. Both of their breeding farms stand and promote top stallions from the race track as well as barrel racing, cutting, reining, and all around show horses. Both of Jill Cook’s daughters showed AQHA locally and nationally and rode on NCEA collegiate teams. Jill loved being a “show mom” traveling with and supporting her daughters. In 2016 Jill’s passion for horses turned to reining and she took the saddle to start riding and showing in that event. Jill Cook DVM has been the Director of the RMQHA Foundation for the past 8 years and has built that program from its inception to a program that is making a difference to the Colorado horse community by awarding scholarships and grants while building a legacy for the future. Dr. Cook has served on the CSU Research Advisory board for the past 21 years as a veterinary advisor to review research proposals to be funded from the money earmarked from the racing program in Colorado. She feels that directing research in a way that helps the industry and the horse is imperative. Jill has been an active lifetime member of RMQHA for more than 30 years. She has served on multiple committees in the race, show, and youth areas and attended every annual convention during that time. She was honored in 2019 to be inducted into the RMQHA Hall of Fame with her husband Vaughn. She is currently an advisor for the youth association as well as Director of the RMQHA Foundation. Jill Cook DVM is interested in serving as an AQHA Director to represent the interests of the Colorado horsemen. She has attended many AQHA conventions with her late husband Vaughn and is familiar with many of the issues facing the industry. She would like to continue his legacy of dedication to AQHA and of making positive changes for the future of the horse industry.
