June 17, 2012

Fastest qualifier and 6-5 favorite Im Rowdy James captured Sunday’s $73,660 Cherry Creek Futurity (RG3) for Colorado-breds at Arapahoe Park. Owned by Luis Rogelio Nava of El Paso and trained by Jose Gonzalez Sr., the bay colt by Ivory James drew clear to win by a length with a 330-yard clocking of :16.628 under jockey Flavio Lozano.

Im Rowdy James, who was bred by Bill and Marsha Drake, finished off the board in his first two career starts in New Mexico and then shipped back to his home state where he broke his maiden in the trials with a time of :17.130. He had earnings of $3,361 entering the final and picked up another $29,464 for his effort.

Im Rowdy James joined 2007 Mile High Futurity (G2) winner Hayleys My Name (by Royal Streakin) to become the second stakes winner produced by the winning Especially Rare mare Eyes Especially Rare. He also became the eighth stakes winner sired by the young Corona Cartel stallion Ivory James.

Wanting To Win, a maiden gelding by One Famous Eagle, ran a big race to grab second at odds of 16-1 for breeders/owners Thomas Bradbury and Marvin Willhite. Marylynn Fischer’s homebred Won For The Road, a gelding by Ketel Won, came on late to take third.
